Plastic Laundry Baskets for Wholesale: Sizes, Tiered Designs and QC Tips
Plastic laundry baskets are a steady wholesale category: every household needs somewhere to hold dirty clothes, and retailers like a product that is easy to photograph, easy to price and easy to ship. Beyond the classic open hamper, vertical tiered laundry organizers let buyers separate colors or family members in one tall footprint. For importers, the difference between a reliable SKU and a return magnet is usually ventilation, handle strength, size grading and how densely the product packs. This guide covers what B2B buyers should put in an RFQ when sourcing from China.
1. Open hamper vs vertical tiered designs
Clarify which format you are buying — suppliers often mix both under "laundry basket":
- Open laundry basket / hamper. Single cavity, often with side handles or a rim grip. Simple, low cost, good for high-volume open-stock retail.
- Vertical tiered laundry organizer. Two or more stacked compartments in one tall unit, so users can sort lights/darks or kids/adults without multiple baskets on the floor.
- With or without lid. Lids hide laundry and reduce odor; open tops dry faster and cost less to mold.
Ask for capacity in liters or a photo with folded towels inside. "Large" means different things across factories.
2. Why buyers specify tiered laundry organizers
Importers add vertical tiered designs when apartment living and small laundry rooms are common in the target market:
- Floor-space savings. One tall unit replaces two or three wide baskets beside a washer.
- Sort-as-you-go retail story. Easy to demonstrate online: drop whites in the top tier, darks below.
- Assortment ladder. S / M / L sizes let you hit different price points without new tooling for every market.
- Cross-sell with bath and closet. Pair with a square basin, underwear organizer or rolling stackable storage cabinet 8501 for a full home-care aisle.
If you mainly need sealed seasonal storage rather than daily laundry flow, folding crates or drawer cabinets may be a better core line — see our home-storage product pages and OEM notes below.

3. Spec points for your RFQ
When you request a wholesale quote, include more than color and piece count:
- Outer size and capacity. Height, width, depth; number of tiers; usable volume per tier.
- Ventilation. Open lattice vs solid walls with slots — enough airflow to reduce mildew without clothes snagging.
- Handles and rim. Integrated side grips, top rim strength, and whether the empty basket can be carried one-handed.
- Material. Most laundry baskets use polypropylene (PP) for stiffness and color options. Compare resins in our PP vs HDPE article.
- Color and branding. Body colors, contrasting rims, and logo on the side or packaging. Details are in our OEM custom color and logo guide.
- Nesting / packing. How many empty units nest; carton dimensions; pieces per carton and gross weight.
MOQ, lead time and unit price depend on the model and level of customization — ask for a quote on the exact combination you need rather than assuming a catalog number covers everything.
4. What to check on samples
Laundry baskets look simple, but thin walls and weak handles cause retail complaints. On samples, test:
- Fill each tier with damp towels; lift and carry — handles and rim should not flex sharply or crack.
- Check that lattice edges are smooth; sharp flash snags fabric and triggers returns.
- Stack or nest empty units as they will ship; measure packed height and confirm cartons are not underfilled.
- Compare S / M / L side by side for proportional capacity, not only height.
- Inspect color consistency across tiers and between pieces from the same lot.
- Wipe the surface; residual mold-release oil or dust shows up in white retail photos.
Also confirm whether the product is sold assembled or needs simple snap-together assembly — that affects your instruction sheet and inbound labor.

5. Packing density and landed cost
Laundry baskets are hollow and light, so freight cost per unit is driven by cube, not weight. Ask each supplier for carton dimensions, pieces per carton and how deep units nest. A slightly heavier, better-ribbed design can still win if it nests denser or sells faster because of the tiered feature. Plan mix loads with basins and closet organizers so one container fills a full bath-and-laundry planogram.
